An accomplished storyteller, creating beautifully crafted films with visual flair and compelling narratives, where the personal and intimate story is at the heart of all her films.
Directing across a wide range of genres from drama docs, retrospective, talent led investigative series, observational feature documentaries and Box Sets.
Most recently her feature documentary Love and Loss: The Pandemic 5 Years On is a deeply personal film about the death of her mother, told alongside the stories of some of the 220,000 who also died during the Pandemic.
It’s a film about love and the complexity of a nation’s grief during the biggest loss of life in our country since World War II. An important reminder of what happened and the devastating price paid by so many. After TX in March 2025 the film received critical acclaim.
During the Pandemic turning her hand to the true crime genre with a drama doc box set, Murder in the Alps. Telling the story of the French investigation into the killings of the Al-Hilli Family and a French Cyclist in Annecy. The series unpicks the arrest of the brother Zaid Al Hilli who becomes prime suspect for the murders. 10 years on the series features a whistleblower from inside the British police investigation, who tells another story of a man being wrongfully accused.

Other selected credits include Raped My Story a feature documentary which looked at the real stories behind the statistics of Rape. 10 survivors waived their anonymity to tell of their experiences in the criminal justice system. Winner of RTS award and On-Screen Broadcast. The film was double nominated for BAFTA and Grierson awards, as well as Broadcast, Edinburgh Television award, Venice award.
The critically acclaimed documentary Prison, My Parents and Me told the story of children whose parents are in Prison and the impact of living with the stigma of having an incarcerated parent.

Prior to this directing more self-filmed projects including – a year- long 3 part-series Great Ormond Street where doctors are faced with the difficult decisions of which children they can save. On call during the night to respond to transplants – often the last chance of life for the children, filming these incredible pressured moments with the families. This series was nominated for BAFTA, Grierson and Broadcast Awards.
Prior to this Catey filmed and directed several authored documentaries for both Channel 4’s Cutting Edge and BBC’s One Life strands. Most notably Bunking Off which told the stories of truanting teenagers amidst a new government crackdown.The Trouble with Being Lee is the story of a teenage prolific offender who is on his last chance before going to prison.
In 2003 one of her most challenging projects was as an embedded war documentary maker on The Ark Royal. This 3 part-series followed the lives of British Servicemen as they went to war with Iraq. The ship suffered the first casualties of the war, as 7 crew died in a fatal helicopter collision on the night of “shock and awe” during the bombing of Baghdad. Filmed on board the ship for 98 days and a mission into Iraq just days before the fall of Basra.

Her debut documentary One Hundred Something was part of a first-time directors’ strand and won several first-time director awards both Special Prize – Prix Circum and Gold Award at the World Fest in Houston.
As an Executive Producer Catey has mentored for the Grierson Trust and supported debut Directors most recently on the critically acclaimed The Trouble with Kanye.
